My Journey & Mission About Sundarban Packages
Hi, I am Biswanath Naskar. If you are curious about this unique mangrove destination you are already in the right place. I was born here, grew up here and for the last 17 years I’ve been helping travelers discover this land as we locals know it.
If you’ve ever been here, you know there’s something about this land that gets into your souls. The rivers, the mangroves, the silence of the forest at dawn, it lingers. It’s not just where I live for me. It’s part of myself.
Growing Up in Gateway to this Magical Place
My address is Canning Rajar Lat, Purba Para, Matla 2, Pin 743329. Canning, often called the gateway to this world-renowned mangrove forest, is as a kid, I’d sit and watch boats full of tourists come through our neck of the woods. I remember standing there, wondering what it was like to be them, to see for the first time the great rivers and the endless forest reaching to the horizon.
It was impossible not to be curious. Why were people from all corners of the world coming here? What did they want to see? I think that’s when a seed was planted in me. I wanted to be a part of their journey. I wanted to show them this special ecosystem that we know here locally, not just in pictures in an advertisement but in real experiences.
The Beginning of a Dream
That stuck with me as I grew older. I wanted to be the best tour operator in this area. It wasn’t about who was the biggest, or the flashiest. It was about getting real. I did not want tourists to have to deal with middlemen or rushed and impersonal excursions.
And on 2nd February 2009 I finally got it. I started my own company and named it Sundarban Packages and Maa Laxmi Travels. That was the beginning of this journey. I remember my very first group. I was nervous of course but the smiles at the end of the trip told me I was on the right path.
It has been more than 17 years now and not a day seems boring. Every group, every journey, every new face has a story.
Why I’m a Believer in Direct Tours
Right from the start I told myself one thing, no others. I had witnessed too many travelers confused, over-charged or led astray by outside operators. That is not the way it should be. So when you book with me, you book direct. My company is from here and I am from here. We live here. We know these waters. We are responsible for every detail. There is no one else in between. I think that’s the only honest way to do it.

Our Work and Our Team Meet
Of course it isn’t just me anymore. Gradually My organiser turned into a small but a strong team. Today we are a team of four, me and three dedicated trip managers. They take care of the million and one details, transportation, meals and safety checks so you don’t have to worry about anything when you’re on a journey.
What do we offer? Quite simply, the chance to see this untamed wildernees the way it is meant to be seen. The wide creeks, the call of the kingfisher, the thrill of spotting a crocodile in the water, and yes, if luck is on your side, the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.
We arrange everything, boats, stays, food, permits, so that you can just show up and let the experience unfold. A few visitors stay for two days, some longer. We have had families, solo travellers, groups of friends, we have had it all. And we try to do something memorable each time.
My Philosophy
I always ask myself: What is travel really for? For me, it is not just sightseeing. It’s the connection.
On a boat in the Sundarbans, with only the sound of water lapping against the side of the boat, you realise how small we are compared to nature. It keeps you in your spot. And it fills you with wonder at the same time. That’s the sort of feeling I want every traveller to take home with him.
The delta is capricious. The weather changes, the tides ebb and flow, and the animals move as they please. But that’s the beauty of this. This is not a theme park in a box. This is raw, real and alive.
A Last Word
17 years feels like a long time but I honestly feel like I’ve just begun. I want the world to see so much more of this enchanting region and I want to welcome so many more travellers.
But I also know the importance of protecting this land. Our aim is to make our tours green, support the local communities and spread awareness on conservation. We also see ourselves expanding our tours, embracing sustainable tourism and finding new ways to share its beauty with the world.”
The fact is, the entire ecosystem is fragile. If we don’t look after it future generations may not be able to experience it like we do.
