About Sundarban Packages – My Journey & My Mission

Hi, I’m Biswanath Naskar. If you’re curious about the Sundarbans, you’re already in the right place. I was born here, grew up here, and for the past 16 years, I’ve been helping travellers experience this land the way we locals know it.

If you’ve ever been here, you’ll know there’s something about this land that gets into your souls. The rivers, the mangroves, the silence of the forest at dawn, it stays with you. For me, it’s not just where I live. It’s who I am.

Growing Up in the Gateway to the Sundarbans

I come from Canning Rajar Lat, Purba Para, Matla 2, Pin 743329. Canning is often called the gateway to the Sundarbans. As a child, I used to sit and watch boats packed with tourists pass through our area. I remember standing there, wondering what they must feel when they first saw the wide rivers and the endless forest stretching into the horizon.

It was impossible not to get curious. Why were people from all over the world coming here? What were they hoping to see? I think that’s when the seed was planted in me. I wanted to be part of their journey. I wanted to show them the Sundarbans the way we locals know it, not just through photographs in a brochure, but through real experiences.

The Beginning of a Dream

That idea stayed with me as I grew older. I wanted to make myself the best tour operator in the Sundarbans. It wasn’t about being the biggest or the flashiest. It was about being authentic. I didn’t want tourists to go through middlemen or end up with rushed, impersonal tours.

On 2nd February 2009, I finally did it. I opened my own company and named it Maa Laxmi Travels. That was the start of this journey. I still remember my very first group. I was nervous, of course, but seeing their smiles at the end of the trip told me I was on the right path.

It’s been over 16 years now, and not a single day feels dull. Every group, every tour, every new face brings its own story.

Why I Believe in Direct Tours

From the very beginning, I promised myself one thing: no third parties. Too many times, I had seen travelers confused, overcharged, or misled by outside operators. That’s not how it should be. So, when you book with me, you book directly. I am from here, and my company is from here. We live here, we know these waters, and we take responsibility for every single detail. No one else is in the middle. I feel that’s the only honest way to do it.

Our Team and What We Do

Of course, it’s not just me anymore. Over time, Maa Laxmi Travels grew into a small but strong team. Today, we are a group of four, with me and three dedicated trip managers. They handle the countless little details, transport, meals, and safety checks, so that when you’re on a trip, you don’t have to worry about a thing.

What do we offer? Quite simply, the chance to see the Sundarbans the way it is meant to be seen. The wide creeks, the call of the kingfisher, the thrill of spotting a crocodile in the water, and yes, if luck is on your side, the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.

We arrange everything, boats, stays, food, permits, so that you can just show up and let the experience unfold. Some guests come for two days, some stay longer. Families, solo travellers, groups of friends, we’ve welcomed them all. And every time, we try to create something memorable.

My Philosophy

I often ask myself: What does travel really mean? For me, it’s not just about sightseeing. It’s about connection.

When you’re on a boat in the Sundarbans and all you hear is the sound of water lapping against the side, you realise how small we are compared to nature. It humbles you. And at the same time, it fills you with wonder. That’s the kind of feeling I want every traveller to carry home.

The Sundarbans is unpredictable. The weather shifts, the tides rise and fall, and the animals move on their own terms. But that’s the beauty of it. This isn’t a packaged amusement park. This is real, raw, and alive.

A Final Word

Sixteen years sounds like a long time, but I honestly feel like I’ve just begun. There is so much more of the Sundarbans I want people to see, and so many more travellers I hope to welcome.

At the same time, I know how important it is to protect this land. We try our best to keep our tours eco-friendly to support local communities and spread awareness about conservation. We also see ourselves expanding our tours, embracing sustainable tourism, and finding new ways to share the Sundarbans’ beauty with the world.

Because the truth is, the Sundarbans is fragile. If we don’t take care of it, future generations may never get to experience it the way we do.
